Butterwick Hospice Care is the largest independent Hospice serving the areas of the Tees Valley, County Durham, North Yorkshire and Wearside.
Butterwick Hospice is a registered Charity which exists to freely provide specialist pain, symptom control, complementary therapies, counselling and bereavement care to adults and children suffering from life limiting illnesses. It also provides supportive services to patients’ families and loved ones.
Butterwick Hospice strives to deliver the highest quality of care and comfort from three hospices looking after babies, children, young people and adults. The hospices are based in Stockton on Tees and Bishop Auckland, three Outreach Day Hospices in Sedgefield, Barnard Castle and Stanhope and also directly into patients’ own homes.
Butterwick Hospice based in Stockton is a 10 bedded in-patient unit with a highly skilled and dedicated nursing staff operating 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year providing compassionate care in spacious and comfortable surroundings. Our specialist in-patient nursing and medical team provide care of the highest standard in meeting patients’ many needs including pain and symptom control as well as emotional and practical support.
Our complementary therapies are in great demand and additional aromatherapists have been trained.
Butterwick Hospice seeks support from the corporate sector in the communities it serves. In return, the Charity strives to raise the profile of the businesses that support its work and enables them to be aligned with a high profile and well respected local Charity.
Butterwick Hospice Care was established in 1984, with over 30 years’ experience we are proud to acknowledge the support received from the community and local companies. Without this continuing support the Charity would be unable to provide unparalleled professional loving care and support to patients and their loved ones at no cost to them.
Day Care offers a wide range of support and activities for a maximum of 20 patients a day. Whether the patients wish to socialise and join in the many activities available, or sit quietly talking through their feelings and fears with a trained volunteer or member of staff.
Our ‘Moving on Together’ group is proving exceedingly popular and it has now been necessary to introduce a second meeting to accommodate the large numbers wishing to participate. This is for people who are recently bereaved and enables them to come together with other people in the same situation, helping them to share experiences and creating many strong friendships and bonds.
Butterwick House Children’s Hospice in Stockton is a 4 bedded unit providing 24hr respite and end of life care for babies, children and young people. Bishop Auckland has extended its services by opening a neurological facility at Richardson Hospital Outreach Centre in Barnard Castle which has been a great benefit for MS patients. The Heart Failure Group continues to flourish and expand and the Family Support and Bereavement Group have been expanded to include siblings. Both these groups are held at the Bishop Auckland Hospice. We continue to provide Palliative Home Care Workers 24 hrs a day, every day looking after patients who choose to receive end of life care in their own home.
